Frontier X2 has been helping you track your heart health and recovery, session after session. But we kept asking ourselves how we could make that experience even better, so that you can train consistently with minimal interruptions.
And that’s how Frontier X3 was born: a device so light you barely feel it on your chest, a battery that keeps going, and heart insights precise enough for you to train with confidence.
Let’s explore what has actually changed in X3 with respect to Frontier X2 and whether you should make a switch or not.
Frontier X3 is the next generation of the Frontier chest-worn heart monitor that is designed to help you understand how your body responds to training, effort and recovery.
Just like the previous generation, it’s worn against the chest, where your heart’s signals are strongest. That’s why it is capable of giving accurate heart insights, instead of an estimate from your wrist.
Here are the new capabilities brought by Frontier X3:

With Frontier X3, you can spend less time charging and more time recording and this has been one of the biggest upgrades.
Get up to 4 months of battery life with typical use of around one hour of recording per day. If you’re recording continuously, Frontier X3 can record for up to 14 days on a single charge.
That’s a significant difference (14x!!!) when you’re tracking workouts regularly, travelling, or simply don’t want another device to charge every night.
At approximately 23 g, Frontier X3 is 10% lighter than the previous generation, making it more comfortable to wear through workouts and during sleep.
Because it’s designed to stay against your chest while you train and recover, even a small reduction in weight can make a difference to everyday wearability.
Frontier X3 replaces the previous generation’s Micro USB connection with USB-C quick charging.
A full charge takes approximately 1 hour, compared with around 2 hours for the previous generation, giving you a faster way to get back to recording.
Frontier X3 upgrades to Bluetooth 6.0 for connectivity with devices and platforms including Apple Watch, Garmin, Peloton, and Zwift. Connect it to the Frontier X app and up to two external devices simultaneously, while keeping your Frontier data synced across the app and web dashboard.
Frontier X3 comes with the same strong tracking capabilities as its previous generation, including heart rate, HRV, strain, breathing rate, training load, body shock, cadence, and more.
You get continuous data and customizable vibration alerts for heart rate, breathing rate, and strain, along with Zone 2–5 Quick Alerts. The result? The tracking depth you expect from Frontier, with no compromise on the quality of your training data.
The upgrade isn’t about losing what already works; it’s about getting the Frontier tracking you rely on in a lighter, longer-lasting, more capable device.

Better technology isn’t about adding more. It’s about removing what gets in the way. A device that’s lighter and more comfortable to wear, a battery that keeps going, and heart insights you can rely on to train with confidence. That’s what Frontier X3 is built to do.
It retains the powerful tracking capabilities that make Frontier valuable for training, recovery, and understanding how your body responds to exercise. You get the Frontier experience you already trust, made simpler and easier to live with, so you can spend less time thinking about your device and more time focusing on your training.
Does Frontier X3 have a Live ECG feature?
We wanted to maintain a clear distinction between our medical and wellness products. Since ECG in our non-medical products cannot be used for diagnostic or other medical purposes, we made a strategic decision to remove the ECG feature from our next generation of wellness products. As a result, Frontier X3 does not display or provide an ECG output. The ECG feature is available in our FDA cleared medical device – Frontier X Plus.
However, the underlying technology continues to be ECG-based, and the accuracy of the key metrics is still derived from ECG signals.
Why does Frontier X3 measure from the chest instead of the wrist?
Frontier X3 uses chest-based ECG technology to measure the heart’s electrical signal directly. Chest-based measurement gives a more reliable signal during high-intensity workouts, unlike wrist-based optical sensors, which can be affected by movement, sweat and changes in skin contact.
How long does Frontier X3 take to charge?
Equipped with USB-C fast charging, the Frontier X3 reaches a full charge in approximately 1 hour—charging twice as fast as the Frontier X2.
What activities can I track with Frontier X3?
Frontier X3 supports 20+ activities, from running and cycling to rowing, hiking, and indoor workouts. Worn on the chest, it captures heart and performance data even during high-intensity training.
